ONBOARDING SERIES

After attending New Staff Orientation, the next step to further develop your career is to continue the New Employee Onboarding Series assigned to you in the Professional Education Portal (PEP). The series begins with your orientation session and includes quarterly professional development touchpoints throughout your first year to help you learn about campus culture and successfully navigate your career at UGA.

orientation timeline

Connect@UGA:
This orientation is designed to help new staff learn more about resources and professional development offerings at UGA, connect with colleagues on all of UGA’s campuses, hear from our UGA HR Benefits team, and more!

Thrive@UGA:
After completing orientation, staff are encouraged to join the UGA HR Learning & Development staff for the second phase of their onboarding. This program is designed to help them explore how they engage in their new workplace, examine how they can be effective in their new role, and connect their work to the UGA Staff Competency Model.

Grow@UGA:
In this session, participants will reflect on what they have learned about themselves and their workplace during their time in their new role, establish a professional development plan with specific details and metrics, and explore how to establish routines to stay on track as they work towards their goals.

Professional Education Portal
The Professional Education Portal (PEP) is a cutting-edge tool to support your professional development and research-related educational needs at the University of Georgia. Many professional development opportunities, including live Training & Development classes, LinkedIn Learning courses, and the new employee onboarding series, can be accessed through PEP.

Employees can search topics of interest, such as “supervisor training” or “leadership,” to find specific courses and curated playlists developed to support specific learning goals. Supervisors can also recommend and assign specific courses to their team members.

Departmental Opportunities
There are many additional professional development opportunities available to you from departments and units across campus. Check the University Calendar of Events for special lectures, exhibitions, and workshops offered throughout the year. The Georgia Center for Continuing Education also provides numerous online or in-person professional courses to advance your career. Finally, check with your supervisor and colleagues to discover what opportunities your department offers.
