Minimum Hiring Rate

Last updated May 31, 2024

The Minimum Hiring Rate (MHR) is the mimimum starting salary for individuals in various positions at the University of Georgia. Information on the latest MHR is available in the Salary Administration Guidelines.

Background

As discussed in the Salary Administration Guidelines for FY25, UGA is directing additional funds in its FY25 budget to increase the Minimum Hiring Rates (MHR). Effective July 1, 2024, compensation rates for individuals who are currently earning less than the new MHR will be automatically increased to the MHR. No action is needed on your part for this to occur. To view the new minimum hiring rates, please click here.

Can I request an exception?

There may be rare circumstances in which exceptions for student or temporary workers will be considered. A query has been created in OneUSG Connect System Manager Reporting> Workforce Administration > Bulk/Mass Update Request >FY25 MHR Exception Request. This query will return students and temporary employees who are currently below the new MHR, along with the new July 1, 2024 compensation rate that will be automatically applied. There is also a column that helps to identify students in summer positions.

If the updated MHR is correct, no action is needed. If exceptions are needed, click on the “Request Exception” link for the applicable individual(s) in the query result. Exception requests must be submitted no later than Friday, June 7, 2024.
