Open Enrollment

 

Open enrollment is a window of time that happens once a year when you can sign up for health insurance, adjust your current plan or cancel your plan.

DATES TO REMEMBER
Open Enrollment for the 2023 calendar year will be October 24 through November 4, 2022. Active employees will begin receiving Open Enrollment information in late September by mail.

An in-person benefits fair will be held on Monday, October 17, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 2  p.m. in the Georgia Center for Continuing Education’s Mahler Hall. MORE

The USG is pleased to announce that there will be no employee premium increases for 2023.

In addition to premiums remaining unchanged, 

  • NEW! You can earn up to $200 Well-being Credit for 2023
    This program has points-based system with additional earning activities. The new program year begins October 1, 2022. To register, visit ourwellbeing.usg.edu.

  • Diabetes Management, Prevention and Weight Management programs continue at no cost.
    These programs are provided for healthcare-enrolled members who meet program criteria. More information is available on the well-being website.

  • Use Accolade for your healthcare needs
    Accolade will continue to provide customized support and recommendations for employees enrolled in the Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia plans.

  • Retiree 65+ contribution to the HRA will remain at $2,736.
  • Tobacco use and working spouse monthly surcharges will increase from $100 to $150.
    • There will be one surcharge for all dependent children 18 and older who use tobacco.

    • EMPLOYEE ACTION REQUIRED:
      You must complete the certification of your tobacco use and working spouse (if applicable) each year during Open Enrollment. NOTE: If you take no action during Open Enrollment, you will default to the surcharge.

    • Check your Open Enrollment confirmation statement to make sure you completed the certification. Corrections can be made through the end of the year through OneUSG Connect – Benefits at 844-587-4236.

    • The Tobacco Cessation option will continue to be available during Open Enrollment for employees/dependents who are tobacco users to provide an opportunity to take a Tobacco Cessation program, complete the program and have the tobacco surcharge removed. Information about Tobacco Cessation options is available on the USG Well-being website under Tobacco and Smoke-Free.

    • The Working Spouse Surcharge will apply to employees who cover their working spouse under the USG plan when the spouse has an offer of coverage from their own employer.

    • You may change/update your surcharge status at any time during the year through OneUSG Connect – Benefits. The change will be effective on the first day of the following month.

  • Change to Impacted Wisdom Teeth Coverage
    • Removing coverage from all healthcare plans and adding coverage to the USG dental plan.

  • Diagnostic Breast Exams coverage at 100% has been added to all healthcare plans
    • A summary of the approved plan design changes, including increases in deductibles, out-of-pocket maximums and/or copays, as well as the plan premiums are available on the USG benefits website.

 

HOW DO I COMPLETE MY OPEN ENROLLMENT?  


Start by completing your 2023 enrollment elections and certifications through OneUSG Connect - Benefits no later than November 4, 2022.

EMPLOYEE ACTION REQUIRED: You must complete the certification of your tobacco use and working spouse (if applicable) each year during Open Enrollment.  If you take no action during Open Enrollment, you will default to the surcharge.

HOW DO I DONATE TO THE SICK LEAVE POOL?  


Faculty and staff who meet certain eligibility requirements may voluntarily donate unused sick leave to a Shared Leave Pool for fellow faculty and staff. Benefits open enrollment is the only opportunity that you have to enroll in or make donations to the Shared Sick Leave Pool for 2023.  Learn more about the program here.


**Please note that UGA does not utilize the USG shared leave enrollment forms.  Use the link below to enroll or donate additional hours to the Shared Leave Pool.**

 

Arrow  How do I join the shared sick leave pool?

If you wish to join the shared sick leave pool, you must have completed the following to be eligible:

  • Completion of your provisional employment period
  • Donate a minimum of 8 hours sick leave during open enrollment (October 24  - November 4) AND
  • Have a minimum 48 hours remaining in your sick leave balance on January 1, 2023, in order to maintain the required 40-hour sick leave balance after your donation is processed in January.

Note: Donation requirements and sick leave balance requirements are pro-rated for part time employees.

 

Arrow  What if I am already a member of the shared sick leave pool?

If you are already a member of the shared sick leave pool, this is a reminder that although you are not required to donate additional sick leave to remain in the pool, you may donate up to 80 sick leave hours during the open enrollment period. Please remember that you need a minimum balance of 48-hours sick leave on January 1, 2023 to maintain the required 40-hour sick leave balance after your donation is processed in January.

BENEFITS FAIRS

This year, we are Better Together! Attend an in-person or virtual benefits fair for more information about the USG benefits programs.

VIRTUAL BENEFITS FAIR
The USG virtual benefits fair with live presentations and chat will be offered throughout the Open Enrollment period, from October 24 through November 4. We encourage all faculty, staff and retirees to attend a fair to learn about the changes to the benefit plans for 2023. You will receive a registration email in October for the virtual benefits fair.

IN-PERSON BENEFITS FAIR
The in-person benefits fair will be held on Monday, October 17 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Georgia Center for Continuing Education’s Mahler Hall.

  • FLU SHOTS
    There will be a walk-in flu shot clinic from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. that is staffed by the University Health Center and College of Pharmacy. No appointment is necessary.  
    Note: Kaiser Permanente members should visit a Kaiser Permanente medical facility for a no-cost flu shot. 
  • BIOMETRIC SCREENINGS
    Biometric Screenings will be available to employees and spouses covered under any USG healthcare plan.
    Sign In to the USG Well-being platform with Virgin Pulse > navigate to the Programs page > find Biometric Screenings > click Start Now to make an appointment.
    Note: Appointment slots are limited and close on Monday, October 3.
