Starting Tuesday, March 17th, University Human Resources will be primarily operating in a remote fashion. Our goal is to minimize disruption and maintain operations as normally as possible. The S. Jackson St. University Human Resources office and the Training and Development Center will be closed beginning March 17th. Our staff will be working remotely to allow for social distancing while we still do what is required to serve our students, faculty and staff.
Please visit our website often. This information is subject to change and will be regularly updated.
We encourage you to monitor the University of Georgia coronavirus website for updates.
Short-term disability insurance
Your ability to provide an income for your family is your most important asset. If you are sick or injured and cannot work, you need a way to replace lost income. You may elect a voluntary short term disability (STD) benefit plan to replace 60% of your income during absences due to non-work-related illnesses or injuries lasting up to a maximum of 11 weeks.
Short-term disability insurance provides 60% salary replacement if you cannot work due to illness or injury for up to 11 weeks. See below for how to enroll.
View details about the MetLife STD plan, including details for filing a claim and access to the Disability Summary Plan Document.
To file a disability claim: (1) Call 866-832-5759 (Monday through Friday, 8:00am – 11:00pm, EST) and (2) complete
the Leave Declaration for Disability Claims form.
New employees can enroll in STD insurance (first 30 days of employment) with no statement of health, although pre-existing waiting periods apply.
The cost of the MetLife STD insurance is based on 60% of your weekly benefit amount. The rate is $.282/$10 of covered benefit.
You will begin receiving income benefits once you are out of work for more than 14 days.
Faculty please note: all faculty and staff who are paid on a ten-month payroll basis will have their premiums adjusted from January through May to include premiums needed for June and July coverage (i.e., January through May premiums will be higher).
If you wish to enroll in University System benefits, you must do so within 30 days of your employment date using the OneUSG Connect - Benefits website. Select the UGA logo and use your MyID and password to log in. If needed, you may also call the OneUSG Connect - Benefits Call Center toll free at 1-844-5-USGBEN (1-844-587-4236).
If you do not enroll during the 30-day period, you must wait until the annual open enrollment period, unless you experience an IRS-approved life event change.
- New employees should visit the OneUSG Connect - Benefits website to enroll.
- Current employees who wish to make coverage changes due to life events should also use the OneUSG Connect - Benefits website to request changes.
