What are Cascading Rules for Leave ?

When an employee submits a leave request, the cascading leave rules determine the order in which leave balances are deducted.

Why are cascading rules important?

Cascading rules are important because they implement leave policy. It’s important to be aware of the cascading rules for leave so you can accurately track your leave balances. For example: An employee wants to request 16 hours of sick leave. They have a sick leave balance of 8 hours, a vacation leave balance of 12 hours and a comp time balance of 1 hour.

  • Option 1: If the employee submits a 16-hours sick leave request, OneUSG Connect will deduct the available 8 hours of sick leave, followed by 1 hour of comp time, and the 7 hours of vacation based on the order established in the table below.
  • Option 2: If the employee submits a 16-hour vacation in lieu of sick request, OneUSG Connect will deduct the available 1 hour of comp time, followed by the 12 hours of vacation leave, and then 3 hours of sick leave based on the order established in the table below.
