SUMMARY

Responsibilities include: 1) day-to-day operation of a Siemens 1.5T Tesla MR magnet system and radiographic procedures to image both small and large animals; 2) assist with imaging data manipulation; 3) support multiple and varied faculty in the conduct of imaging studies; 4) act as the MR safety advocate; 5) principally organize and manage MR patient throughput and assist in radiographic procedures; and 6) assist with basic billing procedures.

 

 

  

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

 

*Day-to-day operation of a Siemens 1.5T Tesla MR magnet system to be used for small and equine MR clinical MR studies. As well as function as MR operator for MRI research applications on UGA-VTH research projects, which may involve dogs, cats or horses. Directly operate manufacture-based Siemens software applications for structural MRI (e.g., T1, T2, T2* acquisition, MR Spectroscopy; Diffusion Tensor Imaging). Computer-based image acquisition and post-processing of imaging data for printing, archiving, and transport by clinicians and researchers.

*Radiograph patients presented with the radiology department, which includes demonstrating proper radiographic techniques and positioning, efficient and accurate radiographic procedures and performing quality control. Assist in all aspects of the UGA-VTH radiographic procedures any time an MRI examination is not being conducted.

*Supervise and instruct veterinary students in radiographic procedures, including correct positioning, exposure factors, radiation safety and both digital and film-screen radiographic techniques.

*Supervise and teach the veterinary technology program in radiographic procedures, including educating on radiographic positioning, exposure factors, radiograph quality, correction of technical errors for both digital and film-screen radiographic procedures.

*Assist clinicians and the anesthesia team in patient monitoring and scan acquisition preparation.

*Act as the primary MRI safety officer, ensuring patient and staff safety while working in the MR unit.

 

*Organize and manage participant throughput, including scheduling participants, coordinating with anesthesia and radiology, as well researchers.

*Assist with basic MR billing procedures through the radiology office manager.

*Daily maintenance oversight (ie. stock and secured upkeep of MRI area) and contact with MR Imaging company for maintenance and service issues.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

 

Certified MRI Technologist ideally with several years of experience with MRI applications.

Registered veterinary technologist with cross-sectional imaging (ideally MRI) experience.

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic team member who effectively communicates with veterinary students, medical staff, technicians, doctors and staff. They will also be able to properly handle and restrain various species of animals.
