The benefits and premiums for the University System of Georgia (USG) Student Health Insurance Program (SHIP) for the 2023-2024 academic year are now available and summarized below.
Every year, the USG works hard to obtain the most competitive rates and most valuable benefits for students enrolling in this plan. The Student Health Insurance Advisory Committee is comprised of faculty, staff and student representatives from USG institutions including UGA. The committee is instrumental in making recommendations regarding the best approach for plan benefits and premiums for the upcoming academic year and will continue to meet to make recommendations in future years as well.
Information on SHIP benefits and premiums for the 2023-2024 academic year are as follows:
- There are no changes to plan benefits for the 2023-2024 academic year.
- Premiums will increase by 6.89% across all categories of students and enrollees.
- Voluntary student-only coverage will increase by $21.50 per month.
- Mandatory student-only coverage will increase by $15.42 per month.
We are grateful that, despite inflationary pressures impacting the plan, this year’s premium adjustment is lower than last year’s 10.5% increase. The chart below shows the updated annual premiums for each tier.

For the 2023-2024 policy year, UGA will continue to pay 50% of the premium for Student-Only coverage for graduate students with a qualifying graduate assistantship, qualifying fellowship and/or qualifying training grant.
There will also be a minor change to the USG waiver policy: In order for the student to be eligible for a waiver, the healthcare coverage must have in-network coverage in the State of Georgia.
