2022-2023 Student Health Insurance Plan – Benefits and Premiums

As noted in the May 6, 2022 Archnews, information on the 2022-2023 University System of Georgia (USG) student health insurance plan (SHIP) with UnitedHealthcare benefits and premiums are below.

Every year, the USG works to obtain the most competitive rates with the most valuable benefits for this plan. The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the importance of the SHIP plan as a valuable healthcare benefit. This also contributed to a high level of claims activity, which necessitated the adjustments outlined below. The Student Health Insurance Advisory Committee, comprised of faculty, staff and student representatives from USG institutions including UGA, was instrumental in making recommendations regarding the plan premiums and benefits the upcoming academic year. This committee will continue to meet to make recommendations in future years as well. Information on SHIP benefits and premiums for the 2022-2023 academic year are as follows:

  • There are no changes to plan benefits for the 2022-2023 academic year.
  • Premiums will increase by 10.5% across all categories for students and enrollees.
    • Voluntary student-only coverage will increase by $29.66 per month.
    • Mandatory student-only coverage will increase by $21.16 per month.
  • Please note that while rates for mandatory enrollment are increasing, the new rates are actually lower than the rates for this plan from the 2019-2020 academic year.
