Examples of reasonable accommodations

  • Making facilities readily accessible and usable

  • Reallocating or redistributing marginal job functions

  • Altering when or how essential functions are performed

  • Use part-time or modified work schedules

  • Obtaining or modifying equipment or devices

  • Reassign to a vacant position

  • Permitting use of accrued paid or unpaid leave

  • Providing reserved parking

  • Allowing employee to provide devices


Prohibited pre-employment inquiries

  • Have you ever been treated for listed diseases?

  • List any conditions or diseases for which you have been treated in the past.

  • Have you ever been hospitalized?

  • Is there any health-related reason you may not be able to perform the job for which you are applying?

  • How many days were you absent from work because of illness last year?

  • Have you ever been treated for drug addiction or alcoholism?

  • Have you ever filed for workers’ comp?


Permissible pre-employment inquiries

  • Qualifications of applicant to perform the job

  • Describing the requirements

  • Asking applicant if he/she can perform the duties of the position

  • Asking applicant to describe or demonstrate how he/she will perform the functions

  • Describing company policies such as attendance, timeliness reporting to work, work hours, etc.

  • Asking applicant if he/she can meet these requirements

  • If applicant self-identifies as a person with a disability, it is permissible to ask if he/she can perform the essential job duties with or without an accommodation
